As Mission Hills prepares to host the Aramco China Championship, the final event of the 2025 PIF Global Series, Tenniel Chu gives his thoughts.
As Mission Hills prepares to host the Aramco China Championship, the final event of the 2025 PIF Global Series calendar, the tournament stands as a symbol of international cooperation, fostering new opportunities for cultural exchange, women’s empowerment, and deeper engagement between China and Saudi Arabia.
Vice President of Mission Hills Group, Tenniel Chu emphasised his excitement for the tournament, describing it as both a world-class sporting occasion and a meaningful platform for global connection.
“I’m incredibly excited about the PIF Global Series being held at Mission Hills. This tournament is not only a grand celebration of athletic excellence, but also an important platform for athletes from around the world to connect and compete.
“The dedication and passion of the athletes, combined with the enthusiastic support of the audience, fill the entire tournament with energy and excitement. I can’t wait to witness the thrilling matchups and outstanding performances - moments that will truly be unforgettable!”
He noted that the Aramco China Championship has become a powerful vehicle for enhancing women’s golf, strengthening international ties, and attracting growing investment in the sport.
“The tournament brings together the world’s top female golfers, providing an international platform to showcase Chinese women’s golf and enhance its presence in the global sports community.
“As an international event, it also promotes cultural and athletic exchange, giving rising Chinese stars such as Yujie Liu and Ying Xu, both of whom began their journeys at the Mission Hills youth tournament before joining the national youth team, the chance to compete alongside world-class players and learn from the best.”
“With the tournament’s growing popularity, more enterprises and sponsors are showing interest in women’s golf, driving greater investment and support for the sport. In essence, the Aramco China Championship is more than just a competition; it is a vital opportunity to advance the development and global recognition of women’s golf.”
Mr Chu also highlighted how the collaboration between Mission Hills and Golf Saudi aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and supports the growth of women’s golf.
“Mission Hills is committed to empowering women through sports, which resonates with Saudi Arabia’s efforts,” he said. “Both parties are promoting women’s participation in sports and the development of women’s golf.
“In 2024, Saudi Arabia welcomed 140,000 Chinese tourists, making China the second-largest source of tourists,” Chu noted. “The first step to achieving future growth is mutual visa-free travel between the two countries. This year, China has already implemented visa-free entry for Saudi tourists, including Hainan Province, which previously offered visa-free entry to 59 countries.”
Furthermore, Tenniel Chu also reflected on the broader potential of sports to strengthen collaboration and investment between China and Saudi Arabia, emphasising the opportunities created through high-profile events like the Aramco China Championship.
“The common interests of the two countries in sports and tourism can promote their respective economic development,” Chu said. “High-end sports events such as golf attract substantial investment and consumption, which can drive the growth of the tourism industry. Sports activities facilitate cultural exchanges and deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.”
The PIF Global Series is a Ladies European Tour–sanctioned initiative, with this event serving as the fifth and final stop of the 2025 series following tournaments in Saudi Arabia, South Korea, England, and the United States. The LET season will then conclude later in November with its finale in Andalucía, Spain.
Spectators can expect thrilling, world-class golf, a showcase of the very best in women’s competition, and a spectacular finale to the PIF Global Series to cap off an unforgettable 2025 season.
